Born from a simple idea: how do we mix creativity with activism?

Dioramas is a book series of layered paper scenes (I also call them tunnel cards or 3D cards) that celebrate the queer community. Each book lets you assemble three mini dioramas while learning a bit about history, culture, and key figures. Every book includes 4 illustrated layers for each scene, paper supports for easy assembly, and a short explanation about each topic.

Dioramas LGTBIQ+ opens with a scene dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ flag, its history and symbolism. The second scene explores the life and impact of Frida Kahlo as a controversial feminist icon. The third tells the story of how International Pride Day came to be.

The second book in the series, Dioramas Trans, begins with the trans flag and its meaning. The next scene highlights the life and artistry of Miss Peppermint. The final scene is all aboutthe origins of the ballroom scene and its cultural influence in the mainstream.

Finally, in Dioramas Lésbicos, the first scene focuses on the lesbian flag, its peculiar transformation and symbolism. The second composition is a tribute to Leslie Feinberg’s life and legacy. The third highlights the activism of the San Diego Blood Sisters.

Three dioramas books by Julia Yus

“After two years, my first book is finally out 🥹🫶 I’m so excited because I wanted to create something fun and educational as a thank you to the community that raised me and continues to embrace me 🌈❤️ I hope you enjoy it!”
